How we Helped TVGAM Build Their New Website

When the Thames Valley Group of Advanced Motorists approached MCS they knew several things:

  • They desperately needed to update their website which was looking very dated.
  • They had a limited budget.
  • They wanted to be in control of their website.

Initial Discussion

TVGAM had come across WordPress and were keen to explore it further. I explained that WordPress would be ideal platform to build their new website because it is easy to use and learn and it is also very customisable. TVGAM also wanted to know how easy it would be to develop some of the website themselves. I offered a 2 hour training course over Zoom to explain how to use WordPress and start creating and designing pages.

Over a 2 hour online zoom session I explained how WordPress works and gave them some initial ideas for how their website could look. I covered the following topics:

  • Themes
  • Plugins
  • Beaver Builder
  • Adding photos
  • Discussing layout
  • Adding photos and embedding YouTube videos
  • Contact Forms

They also got a free copy of my eBook - WordPress - Step by Step: Learn how easy it is to build your own professional website.

Specific Requirements

There were certain features that TVGAM wanted such as ability to create tables and an events calendar. Both of these were easily added by using free plugins. You can see the results on their events page and details about their membership.

 

The Final Result

After the initial training session, I did the initial setup of the new website site with the web hosting company they had chosen and helped get WordPress installed. Once this and the online training was complete TVGAM were able to start building their website. We had a few follow up phone calls to answer some specific questions relating to design issues and functionality but as you can see at https://tvgam.org.uk/ it is perfectly possible for non-technical people, with a little professional help to build a professional looking website.
