How to setup a 1&1 IONOS Web Hosting Account for a WordPress website

Do you want to setup a WordPress website on 1&1 IONOS web hosting? Are you confused by all the different options available on the 1&1 IONOS website?

This is our first article on how to create your own professional WordPress website on 1&1 IONOS webhosting. In this article we will explain step-by-step how to setup a webhosting account with 1&1 IONOS.

Note: 1&1 have now changed their name to 1&1 IONOS. Despite the new name all the products they used to sell have not changed.

Go to 1&1’s IONONS Web Hosting page. If you just need to build one website then the Business package will suit your needs perfectly. At £1 a month for the first 12 months it really is a bargain! If you intend to build more than one website then go for the Pro package at £4 per month.

The next step is to choose a domain name. If you need help on choosing a domain name then read our post – How to choose a great domain name. Just enter the domain name you want – you don’t need to put www. or http:// in front of it. You also don’t need to choose co.uk or .com at this stage. So just enter the name. In our example below we have entered sallyscakesinwindsor

1and1 - choose domain name

Click Next and you will see if the domain is available or not.

Add your domain with the preferred extension to your cart and then click Continue at the bottom of the page.

1and1 - add domain to cart

The next page will see 1&1 IONOS trying to sell you added options. Personally we don’t see hte need for any of these so click Proceed without offer.

1and1 - extra offers

We are nearly there. The next step is to review your cart and make sure everything is correct. You can see we have selected Web Hosting Business for 12 months. You’ll also see your domain name is free for 1 year. You might be interested in the FREE private registration. If you select this then your name and personal details won’t be available on who owns the domain. There are many websites out there where you can check who owns a domain name. The information would include your name and address. In today’s scary online world we recommend that you select this option. For £13 it gives extra piece of mind.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Continue.

We will assume you are a new customer to 1&1 and therefore click Continue.

1and1 - billing information

Fill in all the fields and click Continue. You will be taken to the payment page. Enter your credit card details and then click Continue to review order.

1and1 - payment details

Do one final check of your order and place your order. You will receive an email confirming your order as well as details of your Account Number.

You now have a 1&1 IONOS web hosting account. The next step is to login to your account and setup WordPress which is explained in our next article – How to install WordPress on 1&1 IONOS
